THE WRITERS GROUP
The Writers Group started last  October with attendance varying from 3 to 16 at the monthly meetings up to the last one in April. We will, however, meet during the summer once a month on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Pow Wow Room, and continue the remainder of the year at same time and place.    We welcome anyone in SLCCV with an interest in any kind of writing.     For further information, contact  Janet Maloof 464-9379
From time to time we will publish writings of our members.   The  poem below was written by Sam Nachenberg on the occasion of the 31st wedding anniversary of Sam and his wife, Helen.  They  recently moved into SLCCV and as you will see they are very glad to be here.  They live at 58 Vista de Laguna and they came here from Long Island.  The poem covers most everything that goes on at SLCCV and and shows their delight at being residents here.
Discovering Spanish Lakes

My dear new friends
As you may see
Today is the date
Of my anniversary

Celebrated also
By my lovely wife
Whose loving care
Has extended my life

Thirty-one most happy years
Our second time around
Our deep love and happiness
Is what we both have found

We do keep active
With concerts and plays
Activities galore
Find all our days

We arrived in Vero
Our first "Snowbird" stay
Three months at Vista Royale
Was an expensive way

And then we arrived
Upon Spanish Lakes
Near dear Helen's birthday
For heavens sakes

What to buy this woman
Who has much of everything
Perhaps a home in Florida
Will make her laugh and sing

So this lovely Country Club
Whose eighteen lakes do flow
Is the place for us in winter
Without spending too much dough

The Spanish Lakers seem so happy
Are healthy and active, too
We quickly loved it here
As we find so much to do.

The people all are friendly
We scrabble on Monday night
The beauty of the lakes and pools
Are a magnificent sight.

The Card Room is always full
With a variety of games
While outdoors, shuffleboard and bocci
And tennis for athletic claims.

Hitting that little white ball
Gives golfers a great thrill
All these found in Spanish Lakes
Keeps one from being still.

The overflow crowd on Mondays
For Bingo, Pinochle and Scrabble, too
Keeps the Club House jumping
With many things to do.

The pool sharks hit the balls
Into the pocket holes
And sometimes bet money
As gambling ever flows.

We love the grounds and people
And proud of our new home
We plan extending our stay
And never again to roam
